|James T. Kirk|
James Tiberius Kirk was the captain of the USS Enterprise during its five year mission from 2265 to 2270. Before this, Kirk had become, at the age of 31, the youngest starship Captain in the history of Starfleet . Some of his accomplishments included first contact with the First Federation, the Gorn Hegemony, and the Metrons. He also discovered Khan Noonien Singh and the former governor of Tarsus IV Kodos. He was the first Starfleet Captain to be court-martialled, for the death of Ben Finney; he was exonerated after Finney was found alive.
Kirk had many time travel experiences including trips through the Guardian of Forever, two trips back to the 1960s, and a trip through the Atavachron. The Federation Department of Temporal Investigations has said he managed to gather 17 separate temporal violations.
He was promoted to Rear Admiral after the successful five year voyage. He was assigned to headquarters on Earth for the next two and a half years. He later took command of the newly refurbished Enterprise when the V'ger incident occurred. After another encounter with Khan and the recovery of Spock, the crew of the Enterprise returned to Earth to face charges because they had to steal the Enterprise to get Spock back and had destroyed the Enterprise at the same time. On their way to Earth an alien probe was encountered broadcasting a signal which Spock identified as a whale song. Kirk decided to travel back to the 20th century to get a whale because the probe was destroying the Earth and its call sounded like whale song. After they returned and the whale had saved the Earth, the crew still had to face charges. All the charges had been dismissed except insubordination against Kirk. Kirk was sentenced to a permanent rank reduction to Captain and given command of a ship newly re-christened the USS Enterprise-A. Later Kirk was presumed dead when an accident occurred on the USS Enterprise-B. He was later found in a place called the Nexus by Jean-Luc Picard and came back to help Picard. In the process of helping, he died.
