Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace is the 4th episode to be released and the first in the internal chronology in the Star Wars Saga. It was directed by George Lucas, and released to the cinemas in the USA on 19 May 1999.[1]

The film begins with the Trade Federation putting a blockade on Naboo, and then later invading it.
