An Ancient
The Ancients, another name for and the more evolved decendents of the Alterans, were a race of people from the Stargate Universe. They were the first form of humanity, and over the coming centuries, they developed into a highly advanced civilisation that believed, unlike the Ori, an offshoot of their own race, that science, not religion, was the best course to take. They originated in the Alteran or the Ori Home Galaxy and eventually made their way to the Milky Way, as well as the Pegasus Galaxy. They seeded human life in both galaxies. They eventually ascended to a higher plane of existence, continuing the evolution of humanity.
Over the centuries, the Ancients developed advanced technology, such as city-ships, the ancient gene which gave their people unprecedented control over their technology, and the Stargates, and the starship Destiny, which was part of a project covering a generation to build an intergalactic vessel designed to collect pieces of what they considered a message left in the very fabric of the universe itself, but other matters like ascension took their interest.
